We help you reach smart energy consumers
Colorado Energy Science Center (CESC) is a non-profit organization in
Golden, Colorado. CESC was formed in 1999 by Battelle, Bechtel and
Midwest Research Institute, the managing partners of the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). As a trusted source of information,
CESC’s outreach efforts help consumers, teachers and students make smart
energy choices. We focus on practical steps that people can take to
reduce their energy use and realize savings.
Growing the market for the energy efficiency products
and services
Your most energy-efficient products and services deliver bigger value to
the customer: Energy savings, comfort and environmental benefits. But
instead of choosing energy efficiency, which pays for itself with energy
savings, many consumers choose cheaper, less efficient products and
services.
Smart energy consumers understand the benefits of energy efficiency.
CESC’s programs are designed to create and support smart energy
consumers. As these programs grow, consumers will save money, the
environment will be a little cleaner, and the companies selling
energy-efficient products and services will increase their sales.
The market potential for energy efficiency in Colorado is large. A
detailed analysis has not been undertaken, but a recent study of energy
efficiency potential estimates that each new home in Colorado should
include up to $7,000 additional investment in energy efficiency measures
to capture all cost-effective savings. If three out of four existing
homes needed just half this much investment, the market potential for
energy efficiency in existing homes in Colorado would be over $2
billion.
