School Programs K12
America is the most energy-intensive society on
Earth, yet Americans know little about where our energy comes from or
the economics and environmental issues associated with energy use.
CESC’s K12 Energy Education Program uses home energy use as a topic to
help students learn math and science. The students also learn to
communicate the benefits of intelligent energy use. The K12 Energy
Education Program has grown dramatically since it inception in 2001.
The Program consists of the four key components: (1) Energy Science in
the Home – a 15-module, inquiry-based activity guide for middle and high
school teachers and students; (2) the Home Energy Investigation Contest
that offers students the opportunity to apply what they are learning
about energy use, waste and efficiency; (3) Teacher Professional
Development through workshops, presentations and courses for elementary,
middle and high school teachers; and (4) the Energy Hog Traveling Road Show
–the newest addition to our K12 energy education program for 4th
and 5th grade students and teachers.
