Home Energy Investigation Contest in Grand Junction

Thirteen student teams from five schools participated in the Home
Energy Investigation Contest in Grand Junction Colorado on April 12. Teams
from Mt. Garfield Middle School finished in first and second place. West
Middle School teams took third and fourth place. Central High School won a
special prize as the only high school team fielding an entry. Students won
cash prizes. The Home Energy Investigation Contest (described in detail in
the K12 Education section of this website) is a poster competition in
which student teams collect and analyze home energy data, ranking the
homes in terms of energy efficiency. The student teams in Grand Junction
were all participating through MESA (Mathematics, Engineering Science
Achievement), their extra-curricular science program. Ten of the homes
analyzed by the winning teams will receive energy audits and a variety of
energy efficiency measures installed by Housing Resources of Western
Colorado. The Colorado Energy Assistance Foundation sponsored audits and
energy efficiency measures. Accent Windows of Grand Junction will provide
one house with a complete window replacement worth up to $5000! Other
